Upcoming Shiba Inu Litters 2025

As a Shiba inu breeder, we regularly have young puppies. We ensure that each mother dog is fully recovered from her previous litter and breed a maximum of once a year or less. This is important for the health of the puppies and the mother, and therefore we find it very important.

Buying a Shiba inu in the future

Do you want to buy a Shiba inu puppy, but are not yet ready to adopt a puppy? Then the following options might be for you?

  • You can sign up for our puppy alert for free. You will receive an email when we post photos of our shiba inus for adoption on our website.
  • You can already reserve a Shiba inu litter in the future. You indicate in the reservation form when you would like a pup. You do this in the field for pick-up date or comments. After the reservation form, a payment of € 100 is requested to confirm the reservation.

The character of a Shiba Inu

“Shibas are stubborn dogs, cannot be left alone, and are bad with children.” Or at least that’s what you often read on the internet. Owners sometimes tend to make everything seem more difficult than it is. A Shiba may not be the easiest dog, BUT it is one of the most intelligent and loyal breeds. This is exactly what makes a Shiba Inu sometimes a bit stubborn. He is so smart that when he knows he can play tricks on his owners, he will!

What you cannot say about a Shiba is that it is a working dog. A Shiba Inu can learn a lot, but it is not a “workhorse”. They like to do tricks and learn them fairly quickly. But if you are looking for a “purebred agility beast”, there are other breeds that are more suitable. The Shiba Inu learns quickly, but can sometimes also be a bit headstrong.

There is no breed as loyal and at the same time as independent as a Shiba. This breed can be perfectly on its own (which makes being alone easier) and obeys its superior well/willingly. Its owner is its God, the outside world is interesting but less important to him.

Finally, we can describe this breed as active but not nervous. You know it: Dogs that are tireless, resulting in them not being able to be calm for a second. A Shiba is not like that. He likes to play, run, and loves his exercise, but can also enjoy a quiet moment. His weight and energy level make him an ideal walking partner for many. Pulling on the leash is relatively easy to unlearn.

Another great advantage: The Shiba Inu breed is a very clean breed and often very quickly house-trained. They will not quickly walk through a puddle of water or roll in the mud.

Shiba Inu’s character with children and other pets

A shiba inu is an intelligent, energetic, and independent dog breed that can get along well with children and other pets. They are alert and loyal to their family, but can be headstrong if not properly socialized. Early training and socialization are crucial to curb their natural tendency towards dominance.

Shibas are playful and enjoy active games with children. They need a lot of exercise, so a large yard or daily walks are ideal.

With other pets, they can sometimes have some difficulty, especially with cats. Early exposure to other animals helps them cope. Supervision is recommended until they are fully socialized. Their hunting instinct can sometimes come into play, so caution is advised with small rodents.

Shiba Inu’s are active dogs that love sports

Shibas enjoy all kinds of physical activities, from walks and fetching to agility competitions and sports like dog frisbee. These energetic dogs need daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Many owners set up their yard as a playground with scent trails, slalom courses, or play materials to challenge their Shiba. In short, where there is action, this dog feels right at home.

Shiba inu appearance

The appearance of a Shiba Inu

Shibas come in 3 official colors: Black & tan (a black color with a brown chest and brown paws), Cream (cream-colored to almost white), and Orange (the most well-known color). There are variations in this color, such as shades and spots, although spots are very rare.

The size depends on gender and bloodline. For example, males from the same litter are often one to two centimeters taller than a female and generally weigh a bit more. They are slightly more robustly built.

Average size

Female: 8 to 12 kg – +- 40cm (shoulder height) Male: 10 to 15kg – +- 42cm (shoulder height)

A Shiba has ‘Fox ears’, like several other pointed and Nordic breeds. This means they have little to no ear complaints. Dogs with drooping ears often do. They have a pointed snout, which offers advantages for general breathing (flat-nosed dogs breathe much more difficultly). And finally: they do not quickly suffer from overweight. All these elements make the Shiba Inu a breed with little chance of medical conditions.

A proud, adult Shiba Inu has a beautiful curly tail covered with short stock hair with an undercoat. An ideal protection against both cold and warm temperatures. Dogs like this breed experience a shedding period twice a year. During this time, they lose part of their coat to be replaced with another, more suitable down for the time of year. This mainly happens during the transition from winter to spring and summer to autumn. Dogs that mainly live outside will shed more because the temperature fluctuations are also greater. Brushing is highly recommended, especially during the shedding period. Washing, on the other hand, is not necessary, even discouraged.

Coat care Shiba Inu

The Shiba Inu has a double coat: a soft undercoat and a rough, stiff topcoat. Good brushing is essential. Use a brush for dogs with a double coat to remove loose hairs and keep the coat shiny. Brushing also prevents tangles.

The Shiba Inu sheds twice a year. Then he loses a lot of hair. Brushing helps remove the excessive hair. Bathe the Shiba only when really necessary. Too much washing can remove the natural oils from the coat, making the coat dry and dull.

Do not cut the coat, except for hygiene around the ears and paws. The Shiba must keep a full double coat for insulation. With regular brushing and good nutrition, the coat of the Shiba Inu remains healthy and shiny.

Health of the Shiba Inu puppies

Frequency of vet visits: Only 1X/year (annual vaccination)

Whether a Shiba Inu is healthy or not cannot always be known in advance. Therefore, once again: Buy a dog with confidence and maintain good contact with your breeder. When problems arise with a dog, it is best to always inform the breeder. This information can be very important for his breeding programs, AND a good breeder can also provide more information about his dogs than any other veterinarian. For this reason, we offer all owners a 24/7 service where someone is always reachable.

Health can, in short, be divided into two compartments. On the one hand, you have general health, whether or not free from viruses. And on the other hand, we look at the genetic part. What the puppy has inherited from both its mother and father (DNA, character, temperament, appearance, and other genetics)

For both cases, the breeder has some responsibility. General health is promoted by its environment (hygiene of the housing) and nutrition (both mother’s milk and quality food). Until the pup moves to its ‘Golden basket’, this is the responsibility of the breeder.

The genetics come from both mother, father, and ancestors. Here too, we as breeders bear responsibility. For example: A female with Patella Luxation or a male with Hip Dysplasia is excluded from our breeding programs.

Shiba inu puppies price

That does not mean that your dog cannot get HD or PL when both parents are free, but it does mean that the chance is drastically reduced. Also, its environment after weaning (leaving the mother) is of great importance. A dog can still develop bone problems due to its growth, which can be influenced by neutering/spaying at a young age. It may even be that by using various products against fleas/ticks/pests epilepsy develops. We call this not a genetic but a developed problem. Here too, in our eyes at least, the breeder has the responsibility to warn his potential customers about the risks involved.

A good breeder not only shares information with you about a Shiba Inu and its character but goes further. A good breeder knows his parent animals, provides information about the health of his puppies, and remains accessible to his customers to assist them in the future.

When you visit a Shiba Inu kennel where you are told to contact your veterinarian when you have a problem, how professional do you rate that breeder?

How much does a Shiba Inu puppy cost?

The cost of a Shiba Inu puppy varies from breeder to breeder. Rarely is there a price difference between a male and a female. A normal price for a Shiba ranges between € 1000 and € 2000.

Because another breeder asks less for a puppy, you should not change location so quickly. Because the health of a dog is priceless. One vet bill can sometimes make up the difference.

The price of a Shiba Inu is determined by several different factors with us. But it should not be determined by health. Whether a dog costs one euro or 10,000 euros, health must always be guaranteed.

Age is the biggest factor why a particular breeder would lower his price. If a breeder receives a visitor, each of his puppies should have an equal chance of being ‘chosen’. And price is a decisive factor for many.

In addition, you often find dogs at ridiculously low prices, up to a difference of 50%. Often it is not only about older ‘puppies’, but they also usually originate from Eastern Europe and you cannot visit a mother animal.

And finally, beauty. We also surf the internet and see what ‘competition’ sometimes offers as a ‘Shiba Inu’. The breed purity is sometimes really hard to find.

Finding a good Shiba Inu kennel, in Belgium

Shibas can be found everywhere, at different prices. It is good to compare prices, but don’t just focus on the price. Some tips to help find a good breeder:

  1. Have confidence: When talking to a breeder, also think about whether you would still want to maintain contact with that person when necessary. Who will you contact when a problem arises? If you wouldn’t contact the person in question but would immediately place your dog under the care of a veterinarian, then it seems to us that you have made the wrong choice.
  2. Visit the mother animals: No mother animals to see? Then your dog comes from another breeder. You are not at a breeder but at a dealer. You do not know where your dog comes from and will always have questions.
  3. Ask your questions: Don’t be afraid to ask too many questions or to ask a ‘stupid’ question. A passionate breeder loves to talk about his profession. If he doesn’t answer your questions in advance, he certainly won’t do so afterward.
  4. Pay attention to the dogs: Do you see anything abnormal, something that makes you doubt? Doubts = problems. A healthy puppy has a shiny coat and is playful. Although that playfulness sometimes needs a little trust first.
  5. Don’t take a puppy just to take a puppy: Fall in love with a puppy, put yourself aside for a moment, and get to know a puppy. When you have a click, then you choose a puppy. Don’t take a puppy because you have already taken a vacation. You might just put yourself on a waiting list.
  6. Pay attention to the environment: A clean housing for the dogs is crucial. Feel free to ask where the parent animals stay when they don’t have puppies.

The minimum age to purchase a dog is eight weeks for Belgian puppies. When you want to get a dog from abroad, it must be at least fifteen weeks old and have a Rabies vaccination. For the socialization and training of a Shiba Inu, it is best to buy a puppy around the minimum age and with a Belgian origin.

It is a noble act to want to adopt a Shiba Inu from a shelter, but be aware that these are often dogs with a manual. We advise considering this only when you have a lot of experience or when you already have another dog.
