What does a Pomeranian eat?

Some people say you should cook for your dog. But this is certainly not necessary, unless your puppy is really underweight. Fortunately, most people recommend offering only a good dog kibble.
Unfortunately, other people feed wet food. It contains more water, which means it also contains fewer nutrients. Even though your dog may prefer to eat it, it is still recommended not to give canned wet food.
Puppy, adult or senior food
Note that a puppy has different needs than an adult dog. So a puppy is best given puppy food; from 1 year it moves to adult food. You can give an older dog senior food if you wish.

When should you feed a puppy?
A puppy should be fed at least twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. If possible, you can give an extra meal in the afternoon. This better distributes the food for your pup. If your pup skips the afternoon meal, that’s certainly not a problem.
As the puppy gets older, feeding twice a day is certainly sufficient.
How much should a Pomeranian eat?
It’s very difficult to state a precise amount, because the amount of food depends on:
- How much your dog exercises: a dog that sleeps all day will eat much less than a dog that plays and runs around all day.
- Which type of Keeshond he is: a Keeshond will eat more than a Pomeranian.
One dog becomes overweight faster on the same food than another dog. But on average you can provide 2-10 tablespoons for a puppy. An adult Pomeranian will need to eat between 50 and 90 grams per day.
Important facts you should know about feeding
- Do not give your puppy red meat.
- Do not give your pup calcium supplements
- Do not give your puppy adult dog food.
- Home-cooked meals for puppies are not recommended.
- Raw food is best introduced only after 18 months or not at all.
From puppy food to adult dog food
At the age of 10-12 months your dog should switch to an adult kibble. It’s best to buy the new kibble a little in advance. Then mix the last of the puppy kibble with an equal amount of the adult kibble. This will make the transition gradual and your dog will (almost) have no trouble with the switch.
