10 Maltipoo dog facts

  • Maltipoos are sweet and devoted dogs.

A maltipoo is the kind of dog that’ll greet everyone it meets. Friendly, gentle and devoted. This breed is the happiest when they spend time with their family. They will comfortably snuggle on your lap, and they are equally happy when they play and do fun activities with their family. And they are also alert and vigilant dogs.

They will let you know if someone is approaching your home. However, don’t expect them to give you any kind of protection, as they are likely to invite strangers for a cup of coffee instead of scaring them away. While they are gentle and friendly, maltipoos still need early socialization. Just like all dog breeds. While they’re still young, ensure that they are exposed to different sites, sounds, people, animals, and environments. This will help them to grow to be a well-rounded dog.

  • Maltipoo dogs are suited to allergy sufferers.

Because both parents are hypoallergenic, the Maltipoo is also a hypoallergenic dog. Caution: in some cases, allergic reactions can still occur. Therefore, it is recommended that before you bring home a puppy, spend a good amount of time with them first and see how your body will react.

  • Maltipoo dogs do not need extensive amount of exercise.

When it comes to their exercise needs, Maltipoos are easy to maintain. Every day they need exercise in the form of short walks, play sessions or a good fetch game in the garden. They also like to play with toys around the house. So provide a variety of toys. Maltipoos thrive on human company and therefore should live near their families as long as they get the right amount of exercise. This breed makes an excellent house dog.

  • Maltipoos are easy to train.

Because they are intelligent. Maltipoos make highly trainable dogs, especially with obedience training. Make sure to start training early and combine this with socialization to ensure that you’ll have a dog that grows to be adaptable, flexible and well-behaved. During training make sure that only positive reinforcement techniques are used such as food rewards, praises, and plenty of play time. Maltipoos, like all other dog breeds, do not take harsh punishments well.

  • Maltipoos are suitable for first-time dog owners.

Because they’re easy to train, need a low amount of exercise and are friendly dogs. Maltipoos make excellent choices for first-time and novice dog owners. Once you take them home, you’ll realize that this dog has so much love to give. In addition, maltipoos also do well in homes with elderly people. This is because they enjoy being cuddled for a long time. And they are also sensitive to their humans wants and needs. If they sense that you’re not doing well, this dog will stay with you and let you know that you’re not alone.

Trim the hair on their heads, especially around the eyes, so they always look neat. Other grooming needs include trimming their nails if they get too long and checking their eyes and ears for redness, inflammation, irritation or signs of infection.

If you have smaller children, make sure that any interaction between your maltipoo and the child is supervised at all times.

  • Maltipoos get along well with other animals.

Maltipoo - Loki

Dag Marleen,

Maltipoo - Shoonik

Good morning Marleen, good morning Wannes,

Many thanks for keeping in touch with us through your emails, calls and videos ! This is of great help and sooooo reassuring in getting us to welcome, train and do the right thing for Shoonik (our little maltipoo)!

He has been with us 36 hours and he is already comfortable at home : has a dedicated sleeping area next to the kitchen , an additional basket next to us in the TV room, some little toys . I bought him a toy to bite on as he is biting everything (including our finger/) but he gets very excited and barks when frustrated not to put him he strings out (see the picture )He gets out every 2 hours (first at 5 am last at 10.30 pm), eats and drinks, even did his first stool outside ! He is a great little dog , talks a lot and bites a lot but me try gently to tell him not too.

A question to you : He often putting his legs around ours , an does movement with his hips (similar to a sexual arousal)

What should we do to spot this behavior?

I’d like to thank particularly Wannes you bay is of great support. We are following all your advices and they work really well ! You are the best , really ! Shoonik being my first dog , I really needed your guidance ! Thanks

Kindest regards

Armen and Ilona
